Geography

Geography at QEMs – Helping you make sense of your World!

Geography is the study of where places are, what they are like, what life is like in these places and how places are changing.

Nationally, geography has one of the best graduate employment records for academic subjects in the country.
Geographers are among the most employable and possess the skills that employers look for. In part this is because the subject combines a knowledge of science and an understanding of the arts.

Why choose to study Geography?

Michael Palin
President of the Royal Geographical Society

“Geography is an almost limitless subject for me. It covers so much of what shapes our lives today - where we live, how we live, and most importantly how we shall live in the future. It is a dynamic subject, constantly changing and evolving as fresh evidence is assembled and assessed. As I travel the world I find myself asking questions that only Geographers can answer, and I feel I owe a great debt to all those who've taught me to appreciate what Geography has become for me, a sense of wonder fused with the hard truths of science.”

“You can travel the seas, poles and deserts and see nothing. To really understand the world you need to get under the skin of the people and places. In other words, learn about Geography. I can’t imagine a subject more relevant in school. We’d all be lost without it”.

Professor Iain Stewart
Honorary Vice President, Geographical Association

“The best thing about Geography is that it gives you the ability to gain an insight into the workings of our planet and all its abundant natural wonders…. Geography and Geology give you this kind of long-term perspective on what happened in the past, to influence our decision making in the future”.

Sir David Attenborough
Broadcaster and writer

“The World is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest living source of so much life that makes life worth living”.
